Quartz countertops are engineered stone composed of about 93 percent natural stone and mixed with resins. The wide range of options available allow it to fit seamlessly into any home. Quartz is also available in earthy, neutral, and bold shades – from sand to apple green and everything in between!
At Strobel Design Build, we find that what makes quartz a huge standout against other natural stones such as granite and marble is its nonporous composition. This makes it both scratch and stain resistant. It can withstand oil, wine, coffee, as well as other sources of stains in the kitchen and bathroom. Quartz is also extremely low-maintenance, simply wipe your quartz countertops down with warm soapy water. One drawback of quartz is that it does not withstand heat well. So, this means you shouldn’t place hot pans directly on the countertop itself. An easy solution is to keep trivets nearby to use as needed.

For those who are more environmentally conscious, Caesarstone prides themselves on their commitment to reserving the world’s natural resources by creating their products with 42% of recycled quartz. Caesarstone produces slabs in two thicknesses, 3/4 inch and 1-1/4 inch. Additionally, this brand is offered in two finishes: polished and honed. Polished finishes give countertops a glossier appearance, while a honed finish appears more matte-like. Honed finishes have been increasing in popularity, but can require slightly more maintenance.

My husband and I are planning on redoing our countertops to update the look of our kitchen. That’s cool that you point out that quartz is made out of resin and 95% natural stone. I have always liked the look of it, actually. I think that we should find someone who could put in quartz countertops for us.
